Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

Everyone here is hatching out beautiful babies! I do hope my luck is better next time around! I'm on lockdown with my second set of eggs! If this doesn't work out, I'm starting over next spring with the wheaten color ABC chicks/hatching eggs only. I learned my lesson well with my last hatch! I'm absolutely in love with this breed and hope to get some really nice birds myself.

) It will happen for you. MANY of us started with complete junk. But it is an opportunity to learn and grow so not all completely negative. And just think how much you'll appreciate the "good stuff" when it finally arrives!!!

At this point I've incubated hundreds of eggs (not that many in a breeder's world), hatched a few, and all I've got to show for it is a handful of birds worthy of breeding/showing BUT - the point is - I have my handful and I'm moving forward from there. And not really a single complaint about any of them because I'm learning every step of the way. But you really do have to be prepared to hatch a lot even from the best most reputable breeders to get up and running. (Remember - serious breeders CULL hard. They certainly don't expect to keep everything they hatch even when they are working with established lines.) Bonus is - hatching is a blast!

First I am not a guy second I have black ams and black EE what i said was I would not try to pass off an EE as a black am..... they are not breed to standard..... they are not ameraucanas!

Actually Someone had asked a question if black ams existed or if all black birds were just EEs. Your answer to him was that you hatch perfect looking blacks all the time but they are just EE. So i didn't think this person got an answer per what they were asking. So i went on ameraucana.org went to the gallery and got 2 pictures. one of a roo and one of a pullet . The breeders group best pics of black ams. So i quoted the person and posted the two pics. i told them that black ams is one of the 8 accepted colors and they do exist. and if anyone is calling a ALL black ameraucana an EE. it is because they have not met the standard in some way.

You then replayed to me repeating the same thing you told the other person. that you hatch perfect black ams that are even perfect to standard but you would still not use them in your breeding pen and they are just EE. Well i was really perplexed as to why not use them if they are perfect to standard as you have said. So, as you know I went on this huge rant about if they are perfect to standard why would you call them EE. why wouldn't you breed them and sell them as Black ameraucana. and then how i had plans to do so myself. I kept hearing the same thing from you over and over. So my whole point was about wanting to challenge you to exactly tell me why you say your perfect birds to the standard are still just EE to you.

So Finally in your response you added the one piece of information that was missing the whole time. I believe the first person who wanted the information on the post should have been told you disqualify yours as black ams because of the green eggs they lay. That is why you call some of yours EE.

And for myself after my post. I would have totally understood the green egg making them EE and been in full agreement with you if it was explained to me at that time.. I was left without a reason why, and just told to accept that even perfect black ams to standard arnt ams and are really just EE. That makes no sense to me. I apologize for being rude if you feel i was being so. For myself i just dont accept just because type answers. I like to know the why in things. and in our conversation the reason why was left way out of the conversation until the very end. And after several back and forth post i believe the proper information up front could have stopped all of this. Once again I'm sry for my bad communication and any ill will i may have created.

The bird making the goofy face on my avatar looked just like that as a chick. She stayed very light. And yes they are both blue.

Ohhh goodie! She is beautiful =) I like that lighter color.

Wow, thank you very much for the offer. That is extremely kind of you. Unfortunately, I'm houseboud/disabled and I can not handle an 8 hour drive one way, so I'm going to have to decline the offer. I broke my neck 4 years ago and I'm housebound. That's why I'm buying hatching eggs through the mail. Wow, I am so very grateful for the offer. Thank you very much.

I never post on this thread, I just check the latest two or three pages once and awhile, and never knew you were housebound. I have nowhere near that big of an obstacle, but have enough trouble with making trips, and [in the past] have been housebound for brief periods, that I can have a bit of empathy with your situation. I am so sorry a hustler took your money on those hatching eggs. Unfortunately I have no pens set up to get pure variety hatching eggs from. You're in my prayers.

How old does a chick have to be before you can tell if it is an Ameraucana or an Easter Egger?

I got some Black Ameraucana hatching eggs from a breeder, here in Oregon. I was going to sell two of them at the fall poultry swap, but I do not want to sell them as Ameraucanas if they are not. I would hate to mislead anyone.

If you know who the parents are, you could know right away. Also, there are many things that let you know you have a problem or not. Describe your black for us and I'm sure we can help you or even better, post pictures. Black are a recognized colour with Ameraucanas so you may be just fine.

Boy to I WISH I hatched PERFECT Ameraucanas all the time LOL. Never said that. My Black Ameraucana hen is in the EE pen because I don't want to work with green eggs not because I consider her and EE. So she will be used to make pretty Olive Eggers. If I need her, she is welcome back in the Ameraucana pen, but I would really NEED her. My EE pen is full of Reg EE not Culls from my Ameraucana pen. I like the colors that EE give you that is why I have EE. I like my Ameraucanas for what they are. I don't have any Ameraucanas that I call EE and I don't try to use EE as Amerauacanas.

I saw the parents when I picked up the eggs, they where beautiful birds, but I do not trust the breeder, that is why I am asking.

Here is the history... Talked to the lady over the phone, she said she had Lavender Amauracana eggs for sale. So i drove 175 miles one way to go pick them up. when I got there she had 4 Lav hens in a pen with a Black rooster, and a Lav rooster running around loose. She said she had just switched the roosters that day. I got 6 eggs, 3 hatched, all are black and one has a crossbeak. The chicks are not what I wanted so I was going to sell them (not the crossbeak)

The black color on the birds is just flat black no colored sheen to it.
