Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

I hatched out three Ameraucana babies a couple days ago. Is one blue and one black or..are they both blue and one is just darker blue?

The bird making the goofy face on my avatar looked just like that as a chick. She stayed very light. And yes they are both blue.

Ahh, thank you. :) We live and learn, don't we?

If you were closer I could help you with chicks.  I don't know what I was thinking, I hatched every egg they laid.  I am over run with Wheaten Chicks.  I think I have more yet to hatch too. :barnie

Well, Nashville is a bit far, but who knows what could happen? :)

I've got blues that hatched light like this. I'm noticing the hackles may lack some of the melanizers that make the really stand out, shiny black "trim", so to speak. Perhaps a bit dull. I'm sort of intrigued by this now and eager to see what Christie comes up with when she starts her project with the Blue Andalusians which have the black on their blue birds down to a fine science to support that crisp lacing. In fact, Christie, do you notice a difference in the quality of how the black expresses with your Blue Ameraucanas and Blue Andalusians - beyond just the lacing?

Everyone here is hatching out beautiful babies! I do hope my luck is better next time around! I'm on lockdown with my second set of eggs! If this doesn't work out, I'm starting over next spring with the wheaten color ABC chicks/hatching eggs only. I learned my lesson well with my last hatch! I'm absolutely in love with this breed and hope to get some really nice birds myself.

Maybe someday i can say that I'm over run with wheaten chicks. Have 15 eggs in the bator. Seems only 5 are developing and if they hatch I'll be dancing around for months....Really looking forward having real ameraucanas.

These were expensive. The seller won't reply back.

. Oh, I'm sure of the single comb, it's flat to the head when it hatched. I've hatched chicks before.
I wouldn't call the middle one an EE. I'm very heartbroken. I guess I'll start over this spring with someone from the ABC.
I bought these online from another site I just want to clarify this.
I don't know if it would be the worth the drive to you, but I will gift you a trio of very nice silvers that will be suitable for showing in sanctioned shows if you want. I will be posting pictures of a pair of them in the BST section soon.

Wow, thank you very much for the offer. That is extremely kind of you. Unfortunately, I'm houseboud/disabled and I can not handle an 8 hour drive one way, so I'm going to have to decline the offer:(. I broke my neck 4 years ago and I'm housebound. That's why I'm buying hatching eggs through the mail. Wow, I am so very grateful for the offer. Thank you very much.
