Exciting times here, I got a BW cockerel, 2BW pullets, and 2 W pullets from Wayne Meredith this weekend. These will go with the 1BW pullet and 2W pullets I hatched from Bobbi (Reyvaughn) that are from pea chick's line. The birds are 15-17 weeks old, I'll get some pics up in the next few days.

I need to find a source of leg bands, thinking the metal bands are the most durable can anyone share their sources? and what sizes I will need

please pm if you don't want to post here

thanks

If your hens are not a yr. old do not use the metal bands . They are difficult to remove. Use another kind that is easier. Their legs continue to grow in width. Put us up some pic. when you can. Gloria Jean

Well... I just sorted out all my birds in the grow out pen. It was getting a little crowded. I put all the cockerels into a pen and all the pullets into another pen.
Here is what I have to start my laced blue project...
John Blehm's ameraucana blacks...
7 cockerels and 12 pullets (good odds!)

Tom Roebuck's blue andalusians...
2 laced cockerels
2 laced pullets
(also I have 2 splash cockerels and 1 black pullet)
Not sure if I can use the splash cockerels in the project. Normally you would not use the splash or black birds but I know that all these first birds are carrying the full boat of pattern/lacing genes so considering using a splash andalusian over black ameraucana.

I really want to have 3 separate lines going so it would help to have 3 cockerels to use. I do have the 2 laced pullets so I could create a separate line with them and a black ameraucana cockerel.

So excited that I finally have all the building blocks for this project that I need. In the spring I am gonna start hatching!

Cool, Christie!! Can't wait to see what you start producing. Post some pictures of your teens so we can see what you are working with. (And just my 2 cents on the splash - I would be reluctant to use a splash in a project such as yours because you really do want to know what sort of lacing you are working with. However, that said, since you are just getting started - what the heck! Nothing ventured, nothing gained!!!!! Guess you'll find out!

I imagine you're going to have to do a ton of hatching .... )
