Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

thanks for the reply. one of the reasons I am confused is I have a blue wheaton ameraucana that fits the bill as far as outward coloring goes and appearance, but she just started laying, and it is a cream colored egg. This is confusing. I assume she is not an Ameraucana. am I right?

Sometimes birds that come from Ameraucana stock (and every other breed, for that matter) disappoint us and don't quite measure up. She does not fit the official description of "Ameraucana" if she lays a cream coloured egg unfortunately.

Could somebody help me decide who to order chicks from? I want to start a foundation stock of black and blue and BBS ameraucanas. I have a pair of black crossed to lavender and they are pretty correct, they just won BB, BV and RB at the show I just took them to. I don't know what the lavender genetics include. I was going to order straight blacks from John Blehm to start, but then I was also looking at a farm called Whitmore Farm. The pictures of their birds look okay, but I am worried that they lack a little "bulkiness". Has anyone had experience with this hatchery or can someone suggest a good source for black, white, blue or BBS ameraucanas? I would like to order from several different hatcheries to make sure that I don't have too much inbreeding, but I definitely want quality.

Okay... :/ so it is an EE afterall... another question, If I cross My black australorp roo with that same "partridge" colored EE, will the chicks be sex linked?

You might want to consider joining the Ameraucana Breeders Club before buying. www.ameraucana.org. That organization is a GREAT source for education, information, and connecting with breeders of Ameraucanas. You might also find that with poultry, inbreeding is not considered a bad thing. You can quite safely stick with a single line as long as you are starting with good quality stock.

The Ameraucana web site does not list Lavender as an accepted color. Is this not updated, or is Lavender still a project ? Is there a class where Lavender can be shown? Thanks, not an Ameraucana guy, but asking for someone else.......stan
Lavender is still a work in progress. You can show them but the best they can do is BV. They cannot win the show since they are not yet recognized by the APA.
