Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

Concerning Lavendar Bantam Ameraucana project - to be or not to be?

Thank you so much for your insight. I think that this will be too much project for us at this time. I'm glad I was able to learn that the easier way. Happy New Year! S. Carson

Would I have a better chance at green egg laying offspring with a brown egg laying hen and EE roo, or EE hen and roo with Brown egg genes??

I crossed a Black Australorp roo with Blue Ameraucana hens and all of the pullets I raised laid either blue/green or olive colored eggs. Most of them laid blue eggs. All of the chicks I raised from them took all of the characteristics of the Ameraucana.

Here is a pic of a pullet and a cockrel that are half Black Australorp and half Blue Ameraucana.

okay, :) thanks that's good news except that I won't get new coloring, unless the genetics with my birds colors work differently... you have some really pretty birds too :)

Hi all,

I have a friend who will be sending me Lavendar Ameracauna eggs to hatch, once they are hatched what should I look at for quality? I know she is hatching her's from a breeder, I have seen the pictures of the breeder's and they are gorgeous!

Hi I have a question and hope you can help! We have an americauna hen who just started laying about a week ago but has only laid maybe 4 eggs. I know they are hers because everyone else has been laying for months and her eggs are very long...well the first 2 eggs were white then yesterday she laid a light brown egg and then today it was GREEN!

Is it normal for them to not lay colored eggs right away?

I was totally shocked and just convinced she was not going to lay colorful eggs.

Thanks!
