Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

I have crossed a rooster (direct fromGFF) with 4 very nice wheaten smeraucana Pullets from 3 different sources. All the chicks looked very similar. Very like a cream Legbar in coloring. But with muffs/beards and one had a crest. They turned out to be fabulous birds. The 4 I kept till laying age are laying machines of fabulous blue eggs, except one who lays a lighter blue tinted egg. As chicks I had people driving 100 miles round trip for them and was not able to keep up with requests for chicks. As I am space limited I will not create too many this year but will for sure create some more.
Will post pics later.
they sound pretty neat.

Looks like your chicks are easter eggers.  There is no telling what color the lighter ones will be or if their legs will darken.

Why do you say they are easter eggers? They have slate coloring on their legs, just some are darker than others. The breeder said they were ameraucana chicks, that's what I asked for.

Their feathers/down also aren't standard Ameraucana colours. LOTS of "breeders/sellers" will insist they are selling you "Ameraucanas" because they truly believe that's what they are but ....

If they really sold you Ameraucanas, you should be posting on here describing what colour variety Ameraucanas you came home with.

I am new to Ameraucanas and was wondering what you all thought about my 2 day old chicks. I was also wondering if the lighter colored chicks can have yellow feet and if they darken up when they get older? I have 1 black, 3 blues, 2 that have chipmunk stripes and one that I believe is a light wheaton. I am new and just picked my chicks up today. I have 1 hen that is a year old, that was given to me and that is why I decided to get more, she lays a greenish blue egg and she is so sweet.

This was the ride home. all huddled together

they appear to be ameraucanas, is it possible for them to be just non standard? I met a breeder that had pure ameraucanas, but mixed the different colors to get more colorful birds. Is that possible?

I have decided that I REALLY want to breed BBS Ameraucanas. The only problem I have with doing so is that I can't seem to find anyone who breeds them. I was thinking of getting some from meyer, but EEK! their birds look to be pretty bad quality.

I am no expert, but I do have both EE's and pure Ameraucanas. These look exactly like my EE's did as chicks. I was also told they were "Ameraucanas" when I got them. Also, it's my understanding, (someone correct me if I'm wrong) that if you mix the colors of pure Ameraucanas, they are automatically referred to as EE's.

EE's are wonderful though! Very friendly and social. Not to mention beautiful! You've got some great EE chicks. All of mine lay a pretty mint green to light blue egg. Hope that helps :D

I don't know what color they are. I am new to the breed I was told they are blue black Wheaton and AOL er but I don't know. These are my first ameracauna chicks. Mine was a year old when I got her. If they really sold you Ameraucanas, you should be posting on here describing what colour variety Ameraucanas you came home with.

Stay away from hatcheries. You can go to the ABC (www.ameraucana.org) and look over the breeders list and contact them. Plus, you found us here. You found breeders. ;)
