Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

I have decided that I REALLY want to breed BBS Ameraucanas. The only problem I have with doing so is that I can't seem to find anyone who breeds them. I was thinking of getting some from meyer, but EEK! their birds look to be pretty bad quality.

I live in Owasso, Oklahoma. Anyone got any suggestions?

Hi there! I live about 20 minutes from you, and I have BBS Ameraaucanas!!!! What a small world!!! PM me if you want more info, I can send pictures, etc. or you can come look at the birds first.

they got mad at me when i asked them to please explain how they are not ee's :/
Well, from what I've experienced, it tends to be a touchy subject to those who honestly believe (or just stubbornly want to believe) that they purchased Ameraucana chickens. It does get a little under my skin though when people who clearly have EE's swear they have Ameraucanas. It only further confuses those who don't know any better. I get it, I was ignorant to the differences when I bought my first "Amer"i"cana" chicks, but then I educated myself enough to know what I really had... EE's.

That being said, there is nothing wrong with EE's! I love my EE hens!

They are beautiful and sweet and great layers of colorful blue/green eggs. However, they are not Ameraucanas and should not be sold as such.

so is my dear Sparrow an Ameraucana or an EE?
She has the body type and the correct leg color, correct blue egg color, correct conformation and comb. She has the crazy fluffy beard and muffs. The only thing that might be different is she is a slightly lighter brown-red than the picture of the brown red female on the standard page.
Either way, though, she's awesome!

i have 2 gorgeous bantam ee's and love them but one has developed a cross beak (seems the top half has grown way to much so gonna try and trim a little of it back to see if that realigns her beak correctly)

Sparrow is an EE (her legs are green) but there is not a thing wrong with that. EEs lay eggs that are just as colourful/pretty and the share many features in common with Ameraucanas. Furthermore, hatching eggs from EEs can result in some VERY interesting colour patterns.
