Got my first Amercaunas today. A wildlife biologist gifted me a Blue Wheaton Amercauna Hen and I purchased a Wheaton Roo from her, can't wait to incubate their babies. whoop whoop.

I've mentioned using food coloring to identify who is laying what is your pens. This is what you can expect. This pullet had red food coloring used. Different colors for different hens.

How does it work? What do you have to do?
Place 5-7 drops on the vent holding the hen somewhat vent up. She will suck it in. Repeat the next day and whenever the streaks get too faint. Record what color is used on which hen. I use colored leg spirals and wingbands. It does not get far enough up the reproductive tract to geet inside a developing egg or affect hatchability. I use it to identify egg color to hen, or when I only wish to hatch from certain hens.
 
Hello everyone. I'm new to the Ameraucanas and have a silver roo already. I'm picking up 4 silver hens this weekend. I also have leghorns, bantam cochins and Easter Eggers. I'm excited to start my Silver Ameraucana Project.
