Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

6 of the 7 wheaten/blue wheaten hatched! I'm praying for most or all female. The egg color is stunning!

2 are white and 4 yellow! I'm so very happy! They are very nice looking chicks too!

Special Action Requested
Would you please help us say "NO" to the United States Post Office's plan to raise shipping rates on the poultry you order?

Dear Valued Murray McMurray Hatchery Customer,
It has come to our attention the Post Office is requesting a change to the shipment of poultry through the mail. The following link is a copy of the proposal in PDF form or You can read the proposal on-line at the Federal Register: https://www.federalregister.gov/articles/2013/04/24/2013-09603/new-mailing-standards-for-live-animals-and-special-handling
They are asking that a Special Handle Fee be charged on every Live Animal Shipment. This proposal would increase the postage amount by $9.00 to $11.95 per box.
The proposal outlines the new fees to be charged but it does not include any new rules to insure us that service would also improve. Nor does it offer how additional funds would address their concerns about; Protection of Postal Service employees, mail and the environment, or animals against death.
Please read the proposed changes and send your comments to the US Post Office. We have included a link to a sample letter (in MS Word) for your use. (Sample Letter Link)
Make your voice heard, do it today. The comment period ends next week May 24. Thank you for your continued support.
Letters and e-mails must be submitted on or before May 24, 2013, by sending to the below address or Emailed to [email protected], with a subject line of "Live Animals".

If I breed a blue wheaten to my splash or black, what color chick would I get? Would they still be considered Ameraucana's?

I'm breeding for myself and egg color since I sell eggs for eating. The bluest eggs are the most wanted. My 2 splash/black have a very nice blue egg, but my wheatens/blue wheatens are even a more beautiful color egg.

. I would still consider them non standard ameraucanas. But some will tell you that they would be EEs

The USPS has decided to cover their deficit they are going to charge a "fee" approximately 10 dollars per package for shipping of live animals, without in any way bettering the quality of their service. PLEASE take a minute to follow the link and click Submit a Formal Comment or send them an e-mail to the address listed and urge them NOT to do that. It may not sound like much but it ALREADY costs me $35-50 to ship a box of live chicks/birds. This $10 fee is going to choke small people like us. PLEASE pass the word around! This new regulation will apply to BEES, too, making our costs to bring in new stock for our beehives more expensive. PLEASE DO THIS! They are only accepting comments until May 24. https://www.federalregister.gov/articles/2013/04/24/2013-09603/new-mailing-standards-for-live-animals-and-special-handling

6 tired babies out 7 hatched! One tired momma, I stayed up all night to make sure all went well and once they dried, they joined their siblings in the brooder. I have 2 white and 4 yellow chicks. I'm assuming the whites are wheatens and yellows are blue wheatens?

I'm thrilled to finally have my wheatens! They are so beautiful and I'm so pleased with the egg color. I pray most or all are hens! I wouldn't mind a nice rooster as a sky watcher for hawks and eagles.

Not sure about the down color. Wheatens I have hatched have always been yellow. I could not tell the blues from the blacks until their feathers came in. Hope someone with more knowledge pops in!
