Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

If I breed a blue wheaten to my splash or black, what color chick would I get? Would they still be considered Ameraucana's?

I'm breeding for myself and egg color since I sell eggs for eating. The bluest eggs are the most wanted. My 2 splash/black have a very nice blue egg, but my wheatens/blue wheatens are even a more beautiful color egg.

I keep reading that most of what we think are Ameraucanas are really easter eggers. I purchased an ameraucana and she looks like the pix on this thread, but would like your opinions. Any thoughts?

Green legs = Easter Egger. Always.

This is my understanding: yellow skin over slate legs makes green looking legs. No variety of Ameraucanas have yellow skin, they should have white skin. So if you have green legs is has been outcrossed to something else.

Im a little confused...a breeder in texas has blue, black. lavender, and splash chicks for sale.  But lavender and splash arent recognized colors correct?  Can i say the breeders name on here?  Its not a negative post just confused if i should buy expensive chicks that arent recognized by ABC.  I love the Lavender..

I got my lavs blacks all my ams from paul smith in tx. he is very well known. he has a great reputation and stands by his stock. but if your buying lavs the first thing he will say is they wont come out like is other colors. the lavs are a work in progress and have allot of problems

I'm assuming your splash is from the B/B/S side, and isn't a splash Wheaten. Once you cross the colors, the resulting chicks won't come out as any recognized color, and then would no longer be an Ameraucana as the standard is written. (I personally would never represent or sell these birds as Ameraucanas but as Easter Eggers, even though they came from an Am x Am pairing.)

If you are only breeding for yourself and your egg customers, go for it!

Thank you. That's what I thought. Both egg colors are blue and beautiful. I'd only keep a rooster if he was a nice boy with zero aggression. I need a rooster to watch the sky.
