Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

I love BYC and how everyone is so helpful/wants to help.
I especially love this thread as so many of the most knowledgable long-time ameraucana breeders take the trouble to answer question from people new to the breed.

The problem is when everyones give their opinion (which IS fabulous, and everyone is entitled to voice an opinion - and DO!! ) it can be hard for the new people to tell if the person offering their opinion is experienced or not.

Is there any way that we could designate a number of the "nobility" of the thread as such, so that when they give an opinion we know that it is an informed one?

BYC gives out educator badges, but I am not sure it would provide a bunch for all the ameraucana gurus on this thread.

Well there you go... BYC needs to make our thread some special "Ameraucana Expert" badges!

I have got fertility from a 4 month old LF.He may not be fully mature or have his final look but fertility is there.
Yep. I had some young Cream Legbar roos in with my Ameraucanas for a while figuring they were WAY too young to do the deed, but then this hatched from an Ameraucana egg (long after I'd took the boys out). The crest and barring were dead giveaways that a Cream Legbar had to be the dad.

My dad always said, "Advice is worth what you paid for it." You have to take it in stride given all known facts- whether that person has posted trustworthy things before, how long they've been with BYC and how many posts they've made. I don't think there is any way to mark it as you've suggested although some people as part of their "location" in their avatar add how many years they've been keeping chickens. But years keeping chickens and time on BYC cannot truly indicate breeder experience. And even experienced people are wrong sometimes. I usually file advice away in my brain and wait to correlate it from other sources before I treat it as a cold, hard fact.

Splash Ameraucana.

Yours.

Your Ameraucana looks splash (sorry, I made a mistake). But the comb looks a little odd don't you think?

PS...I was thinking, since the color is so incredibly similar, is the comb the only thing that's off or is there something else that I'm not noticing? I keep looking for recources online, but I'm not finding anything that's real conclusive on what makes the Ameraucana breed...thank you so much for your time in even doing the comparison! SO helpful! I just don't want to breed and sell something if that's not what it is...will I at least have Easter Eggers :) LOL!!

So glad you posted a pic.Saved me the trouble of taking one.The comb is big but if it is pea you can work on that.Start where you are with what you have.

Well the comb is really off. But aside from that it all looks good. Just keep in mind yours is a rooster and the picture I posted is a hen. No problem.

I got 5 Ameraucana chicks this year as well as a couple of Welsummers to mix up my olive egger gene pool.
I got them as 2 day old's from a local breeder. I wasn't sure what the lil yellow chick would turn out to be.
@ 5 weeks old she is solid white with the dark green legs. Is this a rare trait white with dark legs?
I have only ever gotten the brown and red colors before.

It appears that you have purchased Easter Eggers. Not true Ameraucanas. I have both and my EEs are some of my favorites, personality wise. They will be great layers of blue, green, pink or brown eggs. :)
