Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

Today I was in my grow out pen, taking care of my young AMs. I like to pet them even though they dont like it. Too catch them I have to corner them and then of course they all run in terror. I went to catch one and it didnt run, which i thought it was odd. So i was holding it and petting it. Its i eye looked weird, so i looked at the other eye and then it dawned on me why the eye look weird and why it didnt run away when i caught it. It is blind in its left eye. When I went to catch it I was on its left side,so it didnt see me. I will most likley just keep this chick as pet as it is a huge sweetheart. But it is developing pretty feathers and looks to have good body type so far. If i were to breed it could it some of its offspring be blind/partically blind too? If so I will definatly not be using it for breeding.

Oh, my....I meant that as a joke. Sorry. I know it isn't a SF as it doesn't have feathered legs and an extra toe. The coloring makes it similar, though.

See what I mean?

Sorry, I didn't mean to be rude.

Hummm I guess it depends of the cause of the blindness. Could it happened after hatching? Something he received in is eye? But even dought I really don't think blindness breed through...

I have a partially blind Marans that lays the most beautiful eggs, I am 100% sure it happened during the hatching phase, still at that I never bred her. It won't be fair to others to be fooled by it. So she hangs around and gives me beautiful eggs and is very easy to catch

I never realized it before, but then again I dont stare at their eyes when I pick them up. Even if it dosent breed through, i am not going to breed him, it was more of a curiosity question then anything. Although, it is a bummer, because he is really pretty.
