Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

I've got 14 wheaten/blue wheaten ameraucanas in lockdown... Yay! I saw a bunch of internal pips and heard a chirp when I put them in lockdown yesterday. I'll post pics after they hatch.

So how was your hatch?? Pictures please.

The hatch turned out great! 14 went into lockdown and 10 hatched. Really healthy and vigorous chicks. :)

CONGRADULATIONS !!! Love them fluff buts

Thanks!! :) I'm really happy with my hatch. These shipped eggs had undamaged air cells, which is key to a good hatch. I'm hoping others that are in the bator hatch well... But the air cells on most don't look great. We shall see :-/
I love the little fuzzy butts too! <3 Hopefully I will have a bunch more in a couple of weeks. :)

I know!! I hope my luck continues for the others in the bator now. I'm wondering if the low humidity of winter helps keep the humidity controlled in the bators. My theory is that I'll have better hatches in the winter because of that. I will collect data to see if this is true.

Congrats on a great hatch! I just put 7 wheaten/blue wheaten into lockdown today, so keeping my fingers crossed. Three of those eggs are out of the last of my second generation hens (the other one was killed by a maruading neighbor's dog two weeks ago), so I'm really wanting these to hatch. All of them are second generation bred here, but I really wanted to keep that hen line going.

Just curious...one of the chicks in the back looks like it has a bit of partridge marking? or is that just shadows?

Good luck with your hatch!!! :) The feathers hadn't started to come in yet when I took that pic, but the down looks different on different chicks. Some have very light chipmunk markings on their down. Here's a pic from yesterday:

I can tell whether they are wheaten or blue wheaten by the wing feathers already.
