Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

I think it does have merit. I have five welsummers from my own flock born the same same day as the Ameraucanas. It's very easy to sex them by their chipmunk markings and distinct head "V". My females had the very same tail feathers and none of the males did.

I have a question: Of my Ameraucanas (eggs from Pips and Peeps) I hatched 6 girls and 4 boys. I thought I could eat the roosters, and don't have a problem with mutt or meat breeds, but it seems such a shame with rarer, beautiful, well bred Ameraucanas. I have one pure white male I think I will keep, but also have two Black Am's and a Lavendar (black) that will need homes in the fall. Do you find people are interested in buying them? Are people interested in them once they mature, or would rather get them as chicks? If they wanted them as chicks I would just give them to a good home. Thanks for any suggestions.

Hi everyone. I have enjoyed looking and reading through some of this thread.
I bought olive eggers and blue copper marans from the same hatch. The olive eggers are all splash, and the marans are blue, obviously.
But look at this girl! The olive eggers I was told are a mix of blue copper Marans and Americauna..
She was sold to me as a Blue Copper Marans but
My guess is she will lay olive eggs...what do you guys think?

Divannah, I have had the same question. I know that I will only want 2-3 of my cockerels. I will not eat them, and I hate to give them away to folks that do not raise Ameraucana. I am unsure as to the solution.

Me again. Here are some photos of my one week old Ameraucanas, taken last Monday. ( All eggs from Pips and Peeps.)

A little Lavender (Black) male.
And 5 Wheatens.

They were so well behaved for this photo shoot, sweet things.

Did you get the eggs directly from Pips and Peeps? Because the top two are not Ameraucana. They look like barred rocks... Those are some bright yellow legs!

Also the Lavender does not look lavender on my screen :/

The two blue ones look like they are barred too... I was thinking it was the light or something. I see spots on 4 of the chicks heads. They may be some projects????? She is in WA state so ......????????

" then a tblack split to lavender"

Being new to Ameraucanas, I have wondered about the black splits. Do they look a lighter black, or do they look the same as a black. My concern is how do you know a split is a split.

You can't tell from just looking, you know it from breeding.
