I think it does have merit. I have five welsummers from my own flock born the same same day as the Ameraucanas. It's very easy to sex them by their chipmunk markings and distinct head "V". My females had the very same tail feathers and none of the males did.
I have a question: Of my Ameraucanas (eggs from Pips and Peeps) I hatched 6 girls and 4 boys. I thought I could eat the roosters, and don't have a problem with mutt or meat breeds, but it seems such a shame with rarer, beautiful, well bred Ameraucanas. I have one pure white male I think I will keep, but also have two Black Am's and a Lavendar (black) that will need homes in the fall. Do you find people are interested in buying them? Are people interested in them once they mature, or would rather get them as chicks? If they wanted them as chicks I would just give them to a good home. Thanks for any suggestions.
