Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

Well based on the pics on this thread my beauty is an araucana. Right? She has slate legs and I'm waiting for her to start laying.

He is either a first generation EE from a laying hen covered by an Ameruacana rooster or he is a second generation from an EE hen covered by an Ameruacana rooster. He was hatched in an incubator and so the breeder wasn't sure which were 3/4 Ameruacanas and which were just 1/2 Ameruacana.[/QUOTE]
I'm guessing he is the 3/4. But I would like to mention that some people call certain EEs ameracaunas. I met this lady who showed me her EE pen and her "ameracauna" pen. But both pens were actually EEs so i don't know.

Looks like you have an Ameraucana

(watch for 'i' in the spelling) araucanas are another distinctive blue egg-laying breed. It took some time to understand the difference in the two breeds vs. an EE!

She came back and left feedback on the positive feedback she had already left...

Well, that's just about the worst case of "Nuh-Uh I Really Do Have Ameraucanas" that I've ever seen. Since we already know at least two people have addressed this with her and she remains obstinate, all I can say is that I hope other customers will see your feedback and do their own research before buying.

Yeah, me too. But I can say I am a little less naive now. :)

I found someone local and they are hatching blue and wheaten yesterday and today. I am going to buy the chicks from her on Friday... Just wheaten... I am trying to sell off my other birds to have only pure breed wheaten. Sad thing is that I will have to break down and buy eggs from the store for a couple of months...
:(

Thank you all for your input, regarding my purchase/research, especially when it should have been research/purchase...

In case you don't know, there are Blue Ameraucanas and there also are Blue Wheaten Ameraucanas. Most people (not all) that raise Wheatens also raise Blue Wheatens. Most who raise Blues also raise Blacks.

When I first started, I was trying to find Wheatens, and didn't want Blue Wheatens. If you research this a little more, you might conclude, like I have, that you might as well get both Wheaten and Blue Wheaten. When you breed the two together, here is what you get:
  • Wheaten x Wheaten = All Wheaten
  • Wheaten x Blue Wheaten = 1/2 Wheaten and 1/2 Blue Wheaten
  • Blue Wheaten x Blue Wheaten = 1/2 Blue Wheaten, 1/4 Wheaten and 1/4 Splash Wheaten.
  • Wheaten x Splash Wheaten = All Blue Wheaten
  • Blue Wheaten x Splash Wheaten = 1/2 Splash Wheaten and 1/2 Blue Wheaten
  • Splash Wheaten x Splash Wheaten = All Splash Wheaten
Its not like breeding a Black to a Wheaten where you end up with no true variety (i.e. easter eggers). In this way, you can add a little variety to your flock without being concerned about keeping the two separated when you intend to hatch out their eggs. I'm not trying to tell you what to do, but just wanted to eliminate any confusion you might have on this aspect of Wheatens/Blue Wheatens.

I completely trust this seller. I met her here on BYC :)

All of my EE hens I got from her look exactly love my purebred Ameruacana hen I got, even the same color. I can no longer tell which is the purebred Ameruacana :p
