Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

Yes. Make a trip to Arkansas and I can supply you with a black cock and a blue wheaten cockeral. Or get Roosterlew to make a trip for you. I'd be on his way.

Don't tempt me. I drive occasionally to Dallas to visit my daughters and grandsons. I am still deciding if I want to have different varieties or just stick with BBS. Unfortunately, I think I had a predator yesterday when I let them free range. I think I may have lost a splash hen and a blue cockerel. I am hoping that they were in hiding last night and I find them waiting for me this morning. I have not had a hawk attack in over six months and I don't have trouble with dogs but since we are in the mountains and back up to a national forest, there is always something. On a good note, I had a blue hen in the nest box. I am not sure if she was just checking it out or if I may have a brand new blue egg when I check this morning.

I heard back from Paul and seems the cockerels from this particular mating have an issue.  The hens seem to be just fine.  And, as expected, "Don't breed him".  So, I have a little stand alone blue wheaten hen.  Doesn't really matter I guess, cause they were from the same breeding pen and I assume that is a no-no.  Looks like I have a Lavender cockerel and a lavender hen from the same pen, but I think with the black hens I have, I can work around that.  Unfortunately, I do not have a black cockerel.  Thoughts, please

Actually got ahold of Cliff Redden a couple of weeks ago. Hoping to get over there for some wheaten pullets soon & that he still has any once I do!! Seems lately life keeps me to held down to even make that short trip!!

Blue roo was waiting on me, but still missing the splash. Makes me think hawk and especially since all were in the house and not their yard when I just came back by. The blue hen was just checking out the nest....no blue egg. They are only 21 wks, so I was surprised she was in there.

I am so sorry for your loss. It must be hard having that worry where you live.

Oh gee. I hope they show up. They do sometimes hide after an attack, especially hawks.
I have three blue males and a splash male here also. I'm having such a hard time deciding who to keep and who to find homes for.

Well, I have two young males from peachicks line here right now. Blue wheaten that is.

Oh darn. Sorry to hear that. I know how you feel. I love the splash and always had a hard time getting some and hatching some. One year I hatched a pretty little pullet. Wasn't very long after I let them out of the pen, that something came from the woods and snatched her. Found some of her feathers down in the ravine. :( They always get the nice birds.

Here is a question for everyone . Would there be any interest in lavender and black/lavender day old pullets . I am thinking of offering these next year . I see a lot of people short on pullets .

Pullets would be great. Seems as though I have more cockerels this year again. My 3 oldest are definite males. The younger ones I can't tell yet.

@jerryse If someone was to work toward a silver laced project, would it be better to cross a silver laced bird with a white or black ameraucana to begin?

Depends on what is available . White can hide about any color . Many whites are based on black . I think I would try a silver laced over black . Some silver will show in both sexes . Lacing will show with 1 copy . It will be poor lacing . I tried golden laced over buff . That would work for silver also . I started the golden laced for someone and turned it over to them . Have not had a update in year . So not sure how the project is going .
