Thanks again, the women I bought them from did mention the pointed feathrs, but thanks for clearing it up. I will have a closer look. Brave doesn't have any saddle feathers yet, same as a couple other birds.
Yes I would say they are all splash, no pure white.
Well I have some more investigating to do![]()
I am certainly not an expert, but I have heard on here, the term gold leakage. Best I can remember, it has something to do with the lineage and whether the line was silver or gold based. The experts will have to explain that one, I just know it has to do with genetics. I have three beautiful blue cockerels. The one that I think is the best of the three has one small line of leakage on each shoulder. I will say brown or red in my case. I have to look close to see it, and every time I take a peak, i am hoping somehow it went away.I purchased 5 Blue Ameraucana chicks recently. They were 3 months old. A month later the 2 cockerels have developed some brown leakage on the wing feathers. I know I won't be using them for breeding now, but what causes the brown?

unfortunately the gold leakage you describe will likely increase with each molt. My first black am cockerel had a speck of red on his shoulders in yr 1 and it expanded significantly by year three. It also showed up in his neck hackles by year 2. I test bred him because of his great size and type but every cockerel he produced had the same problem so i eventually had to cull him.I am certainly not an expert, but I have heard on here, the term gold leakage. I studied the flock a bit today, and when I went to lock them up for the night I took a closer look at Blacky whom I had been thinking was a roo & sure enough has long pointed feathers on his hackle. He also has started to get a lot of brown bleeding though. I'll try to check out a different bird every evening and hope I don't get any more roosters!
