I would have never thought about doing that.  I would love to see a picture.  That means I could do wheaten/EE as well.  I could have all kinds of babies and my husband would really kill me then.

Because he would have to build you more pens!

Are you kidding? I do not trust my husband with a hammer, never mind a saw. I have converted two sheds into two chicken houses, making me three. Not sure if I want to continue this madness.
But, surely one more won't hurt.

For my part, I'd love for someone who knows a bit more about Ameraucana genetics to let me know if White Ams are recessive white or dominant white. I have a gorgeous splash boy I'd like to try my white girls with, but the results depend on whether they are recessive/dominant. Most white Ameraucana are recessive . They may be based on black and carry blue . My bantam whites are based on black and carry blue .

Interesting! So that's why when I used the calculator it showed splash x recessive white = blues.

I hatched my first set of Ameraucana chicks yesterday and today! I hatched them from my Wheaten/Blue Wheaten flock that I have raised since they were chicks. It has been a long awaited process. Lol I was so pleased with the results! I had a 82% hatch rate, and I am leaving the other three eggs in the incubator for a day or two to see if they hatch. Here are some pics! I was so excited!

To add a touch to the Black/Blue/Splash question, think of it this way. All three are the same, each is essentially black. If a chicken inherits one dilution gene, it affects the color enough to make it look blue (lighter black). If a chicken gets 2 dilution genes, the resulting color is splash (so diluted it doesn't look black at all, but still technically is). This is why any of those three can be bred to produce a purebred, and why they can't be bred with an actual White Ameraucana if the goal is something pure. The white is white because it's bred to be white, not because it's a diluted form of black like the splash is. Does that make sense? Thinking of it that way made it click for me.

So coco laid her first egg today and it was olive in colour. It's the small one in the middle.
