Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

I hatched my first set of Ameraucana chicks yesterday and today! I hatched them from my Wheaten/Blue Wheaten flock that I have raised since they were chicks. It has been a long awaited process. Lol

I was so pleased with the results! I had a 82% hatch rate, and I am leaving the other three eggs in the incubator for a day or two to see if they hatch. Here are some pics! I was so excited!

I have chick envy! Hope the other three came through for you. They are cute, cute!

Thanks! We are at day 23 and no pips yet. :( I did the float test and they all seem very viable, one in particular. I put them all back in the incubator and am crossing my fingers!

I've got my first ever hatching eggs in an incubator on day 11, so I'm no expert by any means. But I thought the float test was only used for early deaths?

You can also use it to assess current viability. Some people use it, some people don't. :) It is a good way to make sure you aren't disposing a good egg. There are a couple of articles that you can read on here that explain it better than I could. Good luck on your hatch!

So keep in mind that I am new at this, but that means there is no way she is an Ameraucana (someone correct me if I am wrong). She is an olive egger. It's very pretty though =)

I agree, in australia we don't have much information about ameraucanas so i was just guessing by her beard and muffs. Regardless of what she is she's very cute and now I get olive eggs, yay!
