Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

Here is another example of things that go against common wisdom . I have read in genetic texts that lavender will lighten slate or black in legs . Yet in my experience it seems to darken the leg color .

Here is some lavender cuckoo project birds . It was said that it was impossible to get slate legs in the presence of sex linked barring . I found it was difficult but not impossible .

My reasoning on lavender making darker legs is working for me . A genetic break is probably involved also . Theories are meant to be tested .

How can I get in contact with a good true Ameraucana breeder in Tennessee?? I'm sure there are some people on this forum? I'm looking for laying hens only but want the true Ameraucana blood from a credible source, not a mutt from a hatchery.. I'm not going to be showing them just using them for eggs and maybe breeding in a couple of years to potentially sell.. Not wanting to make any money just wanting to preserve a good breed.. I'm also interested in Orpingtons and Barred Rocks..

Please email me if you know of trustworthy breeders in west or middle Tennessee that wouldn't take advantage of a newbie.

Thanks,
CP

Had a pretty good hatch. 19 of 26 hatched (9 black and 10 from the BBS group), and that was with a few eggs nearly freezing overnight.

There are several Tennesseans on here. I just happen to be in E. TN, almost in NC. There is also Mrs. Bachbach from NW Arkansas that has a beautiful flock.

I purchased a couple chicks that were said to be ameraucana's but from what I read they are probably EE's. Here are a couple pics....
