Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

I bought my chicks from Agway and they were marked Americauna. They are various colors but most have the same features as this. Are they EE's or did I get what was marked?

I guess they are all EE's then. I dont mind. Just wanted to be sure what I had. I have 2 this color. This is my lap chicken.

Thank you speckledhen

I wonder where the hatcheries get their EEs from. I mean- do they actually have true ameraucanas that they cross- the same way they have the birds to make sex-links?

I've only recently started making my own EEs with my ameraucana roosters- but I haven't gotten any of the pretty colors (except blue & black copper) like Steveo's. Guess I'll have to spend more time with the calculator

Not sure what they do to breed EEs at the hatcheries. I make my own with my BR roo over BBS Ameraucana hens. If you've ever seen my Riley, she is blue barred. Lays a pretty light olive colored egg (sometimes even seems to have a blue tinge).

I got two EE's from Cackle that are a VERY pretty color. Like Bumpkin, I have a real problem with pics, but I'll see if I can get some. I do have some nice Wheaten Ameraucanas and also some pretty blue and black and splash chicks coming along.

The two EE's from Cackle are a pretty soft white with a tinge of red.

Ok, I'll try with the camera.

Happy Mountain-Do I understand correctly that the DARK colored ones are MALE? For some reason I have a harder time telling on their combs then on the other colors of Ameraucanas!

Yes! It's a dead giveaway for the wheatens. Soemtimes BW is later to show itself- well- with mine it was anyway.

Here is a question for the experts. Do ameraucana chicks change their leg color as they age? We just hatched out some white Ameraucana's this weekend here is pics of the legs.

The chicks hatched out in 2 shades some are yellow others are grayish in color.

This is what the seller had to say.

"They will turn slate as they age, at least 95 % of them will. I do not have a single bird in the breeding pens that does not have slate legs, occasionally a willow leg will turn up but it is rare."

What do you think?
