My Paul Smith chicks.

Can I get some input on this one? I'm almost positive its a girl but the comb is throwing me off. I'm posting multiple pics of the same bird for all around views

I'm going to say boy, a slow feathering boy, and let me tell you why. Besides the comb, which is a bit large for a female and red, I see in the first picture a hint of "fluff" peeking out from the side on it's back. I see this often in males. I don't remember ever seeing it in females. At least not in my flock. In one pic it looks like I see pointy hackles, but that can sometimes be tricky just having a pic to look at. Like other poster said, start digging under the feathers on the lower back around that "fluff" and see if you can see pointy feathers coming in. At sixteen weeks there surely should be some. If it is a male, he is a really slow featherer. Hope you have a girl, but those pointy saddle feathers will be a dead giveaway.

He's a pic

That gives me some hope. I need to get some better close ups to show you guys. There are a few with almost non-existent combs, a few with much more pronounced combs, but most are somewhere in the middle. I bought 17 straight run, so I'm hoping 8 or 9 hens, but more would always be better

This one, at 8 weeks, makes me think boy

This one I am almost sure is a pullet

I'm thinking rooster on this one, too.

And this little fella at the bottom of the picture is 5 weeks old. See how far the comb runs back between his eyes? That's what makes me think boy, but most of them look like that. A few have combs that only run back about half as far, and that makes me think pullet, but that may not be a credible way to tell at all. Like I said, these are my first peacombs

I'm so so happy with my decision to get AMs ^.^ they're so sweet! I was just out there sitting on a board and they all flocked over, curious, and one hopped up on my shoulder, the others sat on my feet and they all started to doze off, allowing me to pet them :) love my little AMs!!!

It is so heartwarming to me when people enjoy their Ameraucanas. Amer's and to some degree the EEs are nice birds that are non-combative and kind to flockmates, orphaned chicks, or injured birds where other breeds may not be so willing to be nice. My Amer (my avatar at 5 months) is to this day still a jittery jumpy wary alert girl and we call her the sentinel/guardian of the flock because of her alertness, yet she is sweet to flockmates, not pushy at the feed area, and lets us touch/pet her where other breeds are not so willing to tolerate human touch. All my breeds in our flock are gentle-natured now -- we re-homed all the dual purpose and heavier bullies and now there is peace in the backyard with our gentle and docile breeds - Ameraucana, Silkie, and Breda. We get less eggs from the sweeter breeds but it makes watching their flock antics a pleasant experience -- without anticipation of a bully injuring a gentle bird.
