Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

"I can't see her muff to well , how is it developing ?"

Thanks UpTheCreek! This chick is right at 6 weeks old. I didn't get a really good head on shot today so it is kinda hard to tell. I think it is still too early really.

I had some pullets like that- very sparse in the beard department. I couldn't tell if they were beardless or of they were being picked. Turns out I have 2 clean faced ones, but their sister is bearded. Best thing I can do is breed them to an unrelated roo with a really good beard- and I just happen to have one

If you ever need a wheaten roo from different bloodlines- I have 3 extra wheatens. 2 from Pip[s&Peeps, 1 from the Garners

As for the other chicks- the mostly white one is most likely a girl- maybe blue wheaten

My 8 black, 2 lav, and 1 blue from Jean are doing great. In a week I'll know how my lavs from Mr. Shaffer hatch. Very exciting! dak

I guess time will tell. I kinda thought that the "white" one might be a splash wheaton pullet with very little splashing. I bought them all from a breeder of very nice stock. Guess there is always a chance of a "throwback".

This is Blanca last week. The dark mark on her shoulder/neck is just a shadow. All the other marks on her are dirt and "poo". One of the drawbacks to having white birds! I gave her a bath today and she has tannish hackles and both wings have the slightest bit of grayish on the tips of the new feathers. This is like a long drawn out Christmas...the "gifts" keep unwrapping themselves ever so s-l-o-w-l-y!

Im getting very light ones now and again. They aren't splash, because the roo is wheaten; girls are wheaten and blue/wheaten. Must be an errant gene in there washing out the wheaten coloring. Im not using them back in the breeding pen, Im selling them as wheaten Ameraucana pullets, but I am specifiying I am selling them due to wrong coloring. No one seems to mind, they just want some blue egg layers.
