Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

I am not looking to show! I just want the best I can get for me! I don't think in real life he looks yellow. He does have more of a difference in shading. The picture was taken at sunset! He is about 7 monthes old and the second lavender roo and lavender hen is about 14 weeks and has alot of growing left.
Those are pretty birds, but when you grow out the ones directly from Paul, you will see a difference

I will say, I'd try not to decide until at least 20 weeks. They change A LOT in looks and personality in that time. If he's a backyard bird, I'd select in this order of importance, personality, feather quality, then body type. It's harder to get good feather quality with a LAV but you can bring in body type later using black birds.

I figured I would put most of these on my layer side! I was thinking about the lavenders! I didn't order any lavenders from Paul! I don't know if I could change my order and add a couple!

If I went by personality! The first lavender roo will follow me all over the yard and will fly up to get grape tomato out of my hand! No matter how high I hold the tomato up he will jump up and get it! His name is shadow!

I agree with East Nash Chick on the lavs. Ravyn fallen told me when I ordered mine that she preferred the darker blues, and after growing mine out, I agree. The lacing is much better, and the birds just look "cleaner".
I will breed the dark ones, and try to keep that color more consistently. I think people wanting light colored, pretty birds will buy the splash. The problems I've read about breeding lavs keeps me from wanting to go that direction

Just keep in mind that blues do not breed true 100%. When you breed blue to blue, you will get 50% blue, 25% splash, and 25% black.

I learned that on this thread, so I kept the best cockerel of each color. I can rotate them to get the colors I want, and will probably sell off the lighter blues and keep the darker for myself. My best rooster is a splash, so I'm curious to see the blues he throws with my black hens

I have Put in an order with Paul Smith for blue/black and wheaten/blue wheaten ameraucanas. I will just stick with them!

hello everyone! We live in Hays Kansas. I just ordered some purebreed Ameraucana chicks from a serious breeder /shower. he started his birds from Paul Smith's bloodlines and I ordered day old chicks for either Feb. or March 2016. he said I'm his first official order !!!! I'm so excited!!! I have ordered 15 chicks, all Ameraucanas straight run.
5 blacks, 5 blues and 5 blue wheatens. I'm hoping to keep a rooster of each color and several hens hopefully I'll be lucky and get mostly pullets!! The quality of these birds is amazing! they r so beautiful! I cant wait to get them! Have never had pure Ameraucanas b4.!!
So excited! my babies will be coming from Texas!! Just glad I found nice quality ones!
happy Holidays to everyone and all your beautiful birds Ameraucana or not. My flock consists of 14 right now but most r mutts but I love them so much!!
