samouw thanks very much for posting the winning Ameraucanas! It helps new people like me (wanna be serious breeders) or just plain Ameraucana lovers to see some of the Champs!

here's lavs

I live in central Louisiana. Where can I get some true ameraucanas. I don't need show ones just something to lay eggs.

The problem is no one knows for sure if their birds are extended black (E) or birchen (ER). The ameraucana were developed from already existing birds and short of being able to genetically test their genotype there is no way to know for sure what genes a bird carries.

To my knowledge there are currently no blue lines specifically created using only birchen (ER). They were created from the original blacks so a majority of all the black and blue birds could be carrying both genes. (E/ER)

How does that effect the B/B/S birds, or does it make a difference? I ordered some splash hatching eggs and I want to order some Blue and Black (preferably silkied) and I am wondering what color rooster to keep for the best colored offspring? Does E or ER make a noticible difference?
