I got some bantam lavender ameraucanas in April and have just fallen in love with them also. They have quickly become my favorites because of thier friendly dispositions. Unfortunatley, I think most of them are boys!

Thanks! I am blown away by how friendly they are! I got mostly boys too

....... the only logical thing to do was put in an order for more.

Yes, thats the only logical thing to do!

I think I am done for chicks this year though, well unless somebody goes broody.

Would anybody be willing to split an order with me from John Blehm's website?

I don't have room for 25+ chicks next year, but I could fit 12 or 13. I'm in Oakland, Northern CA. I'd be willing to have them shipped to me and then deliver within the Northern CA area, or meet you halfway from wherever we are. I wouldn't want to drive farther North than Sac or any farther south than Gilroy.

Anybody interested?

Darn! Anyone?

Hey, just wondering, what is the difference between true ameraucanas and easter eggers? I know most hatcheries advertise EEs as ameraucanas, but I've never really read anywhere what the distinctions are. Can anyone give me some insights?

The chicks from my April hatch in my Wheaten/BW pen are growing up! They run around the pen like a roving band of teenagers,
making their parents (mere 8/9 months old themselves) look like dawdling old folk. I'm super happy with their size, nice blue legs and
full beards for their age. Best of all, lots of pullets

. Of the 2 hatches in the pen, I got 8 girls and 3 boys (one already rehomed). I've also got
6 two week olds growing out under broodies and the majority of these are looking female as well.

I'm also pleased with the way they are coloring out. My mamas had nice clean hackles, but not very good tail coloring, as shown in BW Mia:

These are the 11 week olds, and several of the girls, particularly the Wheatens, are showing the more correct tail coloring.

The Wheaten cockerel above, looks just like his daddy Ranger did at the same age, except he is showing less striping in his hackles
and has a more solid black tail. I'm hoping Ranger passes on his good temperament and large size, so far little Riley is a sweetie, and
sits with his Mama Opie who's gone broody yet again

I've been reading and soaking up information on the Ameraucana website, and it seems the goal and difficulty with this variety is getting males
with little or no hackle striping, while also achieving good colored tails in the females.

Check out this not quite 8 week old fella River. Early days yet, but I'm seeing no hackle striping and he's showing very nice lacing already:

cpartist: that is probably one of the most beautiful Wheaten roos I've ever looked at.... and your little River is developing nicely.

I've posted these elsewhere but these are for Jean... I bought him from her.

I think he's a year old the end of this month.
