Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

Kera Ferri is the breeder. She is on the Ameraucana Breeder's club.
Question - I read somewhere that the blue chicks with the darkest down have the best lacing. What do you know about this? Thanks.

It's the light blue chick in the second pic, not the yellow splash chick right? All I can say regarding dark blue chicks is they usually do have better edging (can't call it lacing yet) than the paler chicks, who seem to have none at all. I've yet to see a light blue chick/pullet with good edging. It's a shame because it would be striking just like the Andulusians.

Thank you for replying. Of the ten that hatched only one is splash, two are black, the rest are varying shades of blue. One blue chick is so dark that it could be mistaken as black. I'm hoping for some nice edging (thank you for the correction). The lightest blues would be stunning with dark edging. At some point in the future I may undertake a project to improve edging in blues. But for now I just want to get started on breeding as close to the SOP as I can while keeping a nice blue egg color.

This is driving me crazy!! My girls are going to be 25 weeks tomorrow, and still no eggs! They look ready to me...although one still has a comb that is only bright red sometimes, though it's pretty red all the time at this point. I just wish they'd start laying already. I want my blue eggs!!! Here's some pics I took today (the silver laced wyandotte are the same age and I'm still waiting on them, too):

This is Nora, her comb is the not-so-red one:

And Cora, who I think should be laying by now:

What do you guys think? They look close, don't they? I think I'm losing my mind! I can't wait anymore! Aaaah!!!

She's not developed enough in the comb yet. Still another month or so from laying. Ameraucana can be slow to mature. And pullets that mature in the fall tend to take even longer to start laying.

Well that sucks. I was thinking that since she had started squatting I was closer to getting eggs than that. She's been squatting for about five days now. Well, I guess I'll get them when I get them. I'm just super excited to get my first blue egg- they're gorgeous!!! And once I have eggs, then I can have BABIES!!! I hope they start soon...

Well it may very well be lacing in the future. There are some breeders crossing with Andulusians to get the genes for lacing. So we will see!

If she is squatting it won't be too much longer. I bet you get some in Oct. Could be little fart eggs though!
