Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

If she is squatting it won't be too much longer. I bet you get some in Oct. Could be little fart eggs though!

@FreedomFarm13 "Little fart eggs" are the cutest. One of my pullets squats down the moment I walk by. She started laying about a week after the squatting started, so you won't have to wait all that much longer. I hope you share a picture of your first blue egg with us!

This is driving me crazy!! My girls are going to be 25 weeks tomorrow, and still no eggs! They look ready to me...although one still has a comb that is only bright red sometimes, though it's pretty red all the time at this point. I just wish they'd start laying already. I want my blue eggs!!! Here's some pics I took today (the silver laced wyandotte are the same age and I'm still waiting on them, too):

This is Nora, her comb is the not-so-red one:

And Cora, who I think should be laying by now:

What do you guys think? They look close, don't they? I think I'm losing my mind! I can't wait anymore! Aaaah!!!
If you feel under her vent (like you would feel for eggs in an eggbound hen) you can find her pelvic bones and check the spread of them. The wider they are, the closer to laying they are. Once you can get 2 + fingers between them you can expect eggs in a couple weeks.

I forgot to mention that I did that with one of my silver laced girls (the one that looked closest to laying), and I could fit two fingers in there, so hopefully she'll lay soon...so far it's been kind of a race to see whether my ams or my wyandottes lay first. Guess I should check the ams as well, so I'll at least know whether they're getting closer or not. Thanks for the advice! I totally forgot to check those girls, lol!

On a side note: what exactly are fart eggs? I've heard them mentioned before, but didn't know what they were.

Fart eggs are little tiny eggs, sometimes they have a little yolk, sometimes they don't. Usually they happen with new layers, really old layers, or after a long break in laying like from a molt.

In other news, I almost lost my new little blue boy, Athos, yesterday. Him and my bw boy, D'Artagnon, decided to go exploring outside the coop for the first time and couldn't find their way back. I had to trudge through tons of mud to find Artie, but couldn't find Athos anywhere. Then I heard him calling for me from the other side of the fence and when I got over there, he ran right to me

Can't believe I almost lost my favorite boy! Good thing he loves me and called me to come save him, or I never would've found him. I told him he needs to stay put so he can be Nora and Cora's bf when he gets older. He hasn't left the coop since, lol.

Collecting blue eggs never gets old! These came out of my wheaten/blue wheaten/splash wheaten pens. The pullets that I kept in my other color varieties are not quite old enough to lay yet.

@OnceInaBlueMoon
 CONGRADULATIONS!!! I can't wait for my Ameraucanas to start laying.
Do you have the Ameraucana Egg Color Wheel Chart from the Ameraucana Breeder's Club? If so, what color are your totally awesome new eggs?

Thanks! I need to buy one! I have been meaning to buy a few to have on hand, but I've been distracted with chasing kids and farm animals lately.
