LOL! We can make that happen. ;)

Oh Oh oh! Just got confirmation on getting two new Blue Wheaten pullets. So excited. I know they won't be perfect, which is what I asked for to save some money and I know I have some time to work on the issues. That being said what do you guys know of lazy tail? I am trying to research it but not finding much. I trust it's something that with time can be worked out with time? does anyone know what causes it or how it's inherited?

It is believed to be recessive, which means for a bird to show it, he/she is carrying both copies of the gene. All offspring from that bird will carry at least one copy, and if bred to another carrier, may produce offspring with wry tail. You would have to test breed all offspring to see which ones are carriers and cull those that are.

This is the first time I've raised Ameraucanas from eggs and I must say that these guys are the sweetest little birds in the world! One of my easter eggers is this friendly and the blue wheaten pullet from Susan Mouw is sweet as sweet can be, but these babies take the cake. If I walk into the coop and sit down on my little stool, they peck around under my feet, jump up on me and are just unafraid altogether! Today I gave them a treat of (close your ears) chicken quarters and they loved it. Oh, they'll be five weeks old on Tuesday.

I can't believe this little chick started out nearly as light as the splash.

This one is SO friendly.

One of the lighter blues - I am sure this one is a 'she'

One of the medium shaded blues that had a lot of white markings on the face.

P.S. the scratch on the ground is for the older Ameraucana pullets and cockerel.... they don't pick on the babies, but just in case the little ones want to get away there is a hide-away with entrances just big enough for them to evade the bigger birds.

Not sure if you can tell but the black Ameraucana has a lovely purple sheen. Is this desirable or is green sheen preferred? Thanks for your comments and I will be sure to post updated pics!

I personally love the purple sheen on black but someone suggested that green is the qualifier sheen.

I had a black cockerel with both green and purple sheen that ended up having major leakage at 5 months.

One of my black cockerels has a handful of red feathers on the top of his head. It is a real shame because his green sheen is amazing. My other cockerel has caught up on the green factor now, but I still feel a twinge of disappointment when I see the red against the his intense green. Even his primary flight feathers have green sheen! Crazy thing is, out of hundreds of chicks hatched by Susan this year, he is the only one with leakage. I guess I'm, lucky? or unlucky. Depends on how you look at it. lol
