Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

I was in a local feed store and they got baby chicks in while I was there. I asked what kind of chicks they were and they said Ameraucana. I told her if they came from a hatchery, they are probably Easter Eggers. She got mad and said they sold them as Ameraucana and they lay green and blue eggs and she is not going to get into it with me. IMO the hatcheries are to blame more than the store owners who just buy and sell chicks. While the store owner may honestly not know. The hatchery should know. It's their business to know. It's misrepresentation. I don't understand why they continue to do it knowing those chickens are not Ameraucana.

I agree hatcheries need to be honest. Kern

One of my black cockerels has a handful of red feathers on the top of his head. It is a real shame because his green sheen is amazing. My other cockerel has caught up on the green factor now, but I still feel a twinge of disappointment when I see the red against the his intense green. Even his primary flight feathers have green sheen! Crazy thing is, out of hundreds of chicks hatched by Susan this year, he is the only one with leakage. I guess I'm, lucky? or unlucky. Depends on how you look at it. lol

I hope she doesn't turn out with leakage :[
I have a BCM that has a brilliant green sheen and an EE with green and purple but this little black Ameraucana has no green sheen so far. All purple.

I read that some people prefer the purple sheen when breeding to make blues. I am new so I have no clue out that. Best of luck to you! My fingers are crossed for you.

I totally agree with you. This Spring I stopped at a feed store and asked what kind of chicks they sell. One of the breeds they mentioned was Araucana-Ameraucana. I told them that if the chicks look like little chipmunks and have tails they are easter eggers and their source lied to them. The guy was shocked but I'll bet you he'll order the same chicks from the same company next Spring. It is a real shame. I mean, you wouldn't sell a barred rock and claim it's a cuckoo marans.

LOL!  We can make that happen. ;)

:highfive: :celebrate

Keeping my :fl on our end... kinda ran into some major financial changes... :/

Hope you are doing well! How's recovery going?

Ok...let me know. :) I have a beautiful cockerel here with your name on him. lol We might have to do a trio, instead of a quad, tho..I'm running out of pullets!

Recovery is...well, it's going. Got the all clear from the Drs last week on the surgery itself, but I can't seem to get my energy back up. I go out to do something and, within an hour or two, I'm so tired that it makes me nauseous. Trying to build back up slowly, but I'm not known for my patience. lol

Definitely will keep you updated! Just didn't want to be last minute changes for you, I don't like doing that to others... :/

Really want a quad, but trio is probably more doable on my end as well... I'll talk to the other half and send you a message... :) please don't let that boy lose my name tag! :D ;)

Glad you got the all clear, just keep it slow and pace yourself... hang in there... :hugs

Don't worry about it..if things change for you, even at the last minute, it's not going to be a problem here. I still have a waiting list for started birds and they won't get culled! ;)

You're the best, Susan!! And I can see that list being long with your quality! Just don't beat the poor people off with a stick too hard, lol... :gig
