Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

Hi all, I'm pretty new to the Ameraucana breed and was looking for some insight. What do you think of the color of this boy? He's about 9 months old. Thanks in advance.

Thank you, that's what I thought. Easter Eggers for sale everyone.

So far I haven't had any more losses. No more leaky eyes, though I do have a pair that will kinda stop and "nap" in the oddest places so I think they are still not feeling great.

Still waiting to hear back from the vet.

Professional breeder advice needed. I want to get another cockerel and the closest breeder to me only has true black. I have BBS. At one time I thought I heard some of y'all say they are different when it came to breeding. Please enlighten me so I breed properly. Thanks.

The gene for Blue/Splash only affect black patterning. Blue have a single copy of the gene, changing black to shades of grey. Splash have two copies of the gene, further diluting the black to light grey or white, with flecks/splashes of darker grey.

BBS is not considered a 'variety', just means blues and blacks were bred together... *usually* better coloring comes from breeding true to color, so you should be fine in that regard... though bringing in an outside line can always bring in unexpected results or issues...

Only way to tell for sure is to breed him and see... :)
