I'll figure something out. Both strains must be pretty mild since the birds are not showing symptoms anymore.

So I got a call saying the birds have Laryngotracheitis....

Still waiting to see whether or not the cultures show MG.

At least I can have a plan of action and I'm reading that LT isn't passed into the eggs, and can be killed with Lysol or Oxine.
I've dealt with LT and was forced to depopulate and repopulate my flock, by the state, a few decades ago. I won't get them involved again and suggest breeding for resistance. It is a herpes virus that is dormant until stress causes it to flare up. Below is info if you plan to vaccinate for it. Please email me (not PM) if you want links (that I'm not allowed to post here) to more about ILT or MG/CRD.

Professional breeder advice needed. I want to get another cockerel and the closest breeder to me only has true black. I have BBS. At one time I thought I heard some of y'all say they are different when it came to breeding. Please enlighten me so I breed properly. Thanks.

The gene for Blue/Splash only affect black patterning. Blue have a single copy of the gene, changing black to shades of grey. Splash have two copies of the gene, further diluting the black to light grey or white, with flecks/splashes of darker grey.

So far I've been told that I won't have to depopulate, I just can't move any birds until they've been symptom free for 30 days. I think whatever I plan to do I will vaccinate for LT. I'm hoping to see if there is a way to prevent in-ovo transmission of MS into the eggs by treating the adults with antibiotics and then doing a Tylan dip on the eggs. Some of what I'm reading and what I've heard from one vet is that MS does transfer to the egg, but not often, and that no real large studies have been done to calculate the actual rate of transfer, and chicks hatched from infected eggs rarely show signs of illness.

I dislike not having solid numbers on the actual rate of transfer to eggs. Urg......

Treatment and control for MS is almost identical to that for MG, according to this site...

Hey, everybody! Just wanted to hop on and show a couple update pics of my blue Am cockerel, Athos. He's getting so big and looks like such a stud already! He is 12 weeks old now, and is starting to get his muffs and beard. He's also starting to trust me a little more and will hold still for me to pet him, as long as I don't move AT ALL except to pet him, lol. I love him
