Glorious, gorgeous first eggs!!!! The egg second to the right and the very farthest right are first eggs from my blue wheaten pullets. I bumped up the contrast on the photo, but just to show their color - they really are this vibrant! The last egg is so BLUE. I am in love.....

My wheatens lay those lovely intensely blue eggs also, but they are also a little small, I think.

And one of them has been broody absolutely ALL SUMMER! Darn it.

I had none go broody last year, and this year I had two go broody from my April 2009 hatch and one from my January 2010 hatch.

The one from January was broody for 6 weeks. I put chicks under her and she tried to kill them. She got kicked out of the coop right away. I noticed to night she somehow found her way back into the coop... one of my kids must have let her in.. but she was on the roost tonight and not sitting on golf balls.

I'm not getting ANY eggs. They're all either broody, molting, hiding eggs, or on strike due to heat- a little of each. I CAN'T WAIT for it to cool off so I can keep them all in for a couple days.

I have all of those W/BW Ams and the last two days all I've gotten is 2 polish eggs, 2 marans eggs and 1 leghorn egg.

One of my black bantams laid her first egg a few days ago and hasn't laid one again since. My older hens haven't laid either. I think i have an egg eater on my hands because I found egg shells in the coop.....

Does anybody near me have an Americauna roo for sale or give away. I am nearly desperate for one. I had one last year and he and my only hen had 6 babies and I kept a cockerel and the pullets. I must have kept the wrong one because when he grew up he turned very mean. So he had to go. The roo that produced him got a broken knee and had to be put down. I haven't had a roo since. There have been a few that have not been Americauna's just fill ins till we find a pure one. I would love to have a nice roo that is ready to take care of business. I've posted in several places but all the replies have been too far away and/or too young. I am in Obion County area. I can travel about an hour away to meet somebody if necessary. There has got to be somebody near me with one. It's just hard to believe that nobody in this area has an extra roo. I just haven't gotten the word out there enough. So, i'm trying again.

I have 8 RIR's that should start laying soon. I hope. I put a bucket of ice in their water every day to help cool them off. I use bottles of frozen water, cold and frozen treats. I even refresh their water 2 and 3 times a day and I put a small pool in the big cool for them to stand in to cool off. I run water in their dusting holes so they can cool off in those too. It's a wonder I havne't had a heat sstroke trying to keep my chickens cool as possible. How do they reward my efforts? With a few eggs a day.
