Thank you for your help. We wont be breeding these girls. We are only fostering them until they are 100% healthy and then they will be rehomed with our daughter. Our flock is not very fond of these new girls...we had to move them to the vacant pheasant coop.

Then your daughter will have some very pretty egg layers.

It can be very hard to tell from a picture to determine whether a bird is a true Ameraucana or not.  I'm assuming these are bantams, just from the stance and certain telltale signs.  They could be true blue Ameraucanas, with significant leakage or they could be Easter Eggers.

Either way, they would not be suitable for a breeding program of true Ameraucanas.

I only said EE's so quick cuz I saw willow shanks, Susan...

Btw, looks like mosquitoes are going to be bad this year...

And absolutely... I'm getting worried by the spread of Fowl Pox lately... how is it around your area?

I vaccinate against fowl pox, so no worries here.

But, we are also in a very sandy area, so water isn't standing...which is a very good thing for the chickens - not so good for Barry's garden.

My Ameraucanas seem to be taking forever to complete their first year molt. Is that typical?

Might need to look into that... I take it that it's not effective for adults though, or??

Opposite here... great topsoil but directly under it is a huge layer of clay and then limestone under that... but I do have ducks, lol...

My Ameraucanas seem to be taking forever to complete their first year molt. Is that typical?

Most of mine are slow molters... but this last season has been wacky with the constant climate changes... I think it threw theit whole molting period out of sync...
