Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

That black rooster is stunning!

Leakage is the base color showing through. My first Ameraucana rooster had bleed through base color, which he did pass on to his male offspring-it can show on the females, but rarely do you notice it on them.
He had one son with such severe bleed through that it was almost silver.
My rooster-the black hen I posted above is his daughter. You can see the color showing through that should not in hackles, wings and around the comb.

The son of his that shows why you don't usually breed a bird with this leakage/bleed-through color:

Betty's beard and muffs are finally growing back after my other girls plucked them out.

Could we show in 4h or should we bring in a roo and work on the line?

Thanks
Scott

Honestly, they should be just fine for 4H... 4H isn't as strict as APA shows... but if you're going to be doing 4H for a while, I would definitely get a nice cock bird to breed them to... that way if you want to advance to APA shows after a while, you'll have even better quality to keep going with... blues are accepted, splash isn't yet, for APA shows... and like I said, body type of the one blue is actually very nice... the blues you have are lacking in proper lacing, but that's a common fault... Blue cock bird with better lacing and good type would improve the blues more...
