Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

Were there "white" pullets as well as cocks?

I'll answer this one, since halo seems not to be online - in addition to the roo, I got 2 perfectly lovely, nearly white pullets from her.

I have another take on this white wheaten showing up....
In the native American legends I'm sure we have all heard about the tales of the White Buffalo coming at the proper time in History to portend change... Either good or bad??
But perhaps, the Legend of the White Wheaton was forgotten by all but a few Chosen Ones of the Feather...

Maybe this is the year- apparently there are white welsummers showing up out there too!

Is this the roo you got from tailfeatherz?

Yes- I didn't hatch him though. Emmalynn hatched him and his sis.
He's the low man on the totem pole. The other roos don't even bother him, just hangs out all day with his white rock girlfriend. He's going to get his own clan this winter- a few weatengirls and a bunch of salmon favs. I can'twait to see what colors of EEs we get!

He's splash wheaten. One of the results of blue wheaten x blue wheaten. His sis is blue wheaten, but you can get regular wheatens that way too. Just like breeding other blue, black, splashes. I was told what lines he was from but I can't remember right now

I believe the answer technically is yes. Splash birds aren't a recognized color within any breed, but when breeding BBS birds, a nice Splash is something most breeders wouldn't try to do it without. He'll produce true to type/color Wheaten and Blue Wheaten chicks with the correct matings.

Right. And I have gotten some really pretty blue wheaten chicks out of his sister- so I hope he can give me some "lots of blue" blue wheaten offspring as well.

That's my reasoning for wanting a Splash Wheaten boy- I want the chicks I hatch and the eggs I sell to mostly be BW. With Wheaten and BW girls it could happen!

Also, it seems like working with a Splash roo would up your chances for blue Olive Eggers too, something which I'm fascinated by!
