Yes, I do know where my birds came from. The lineage is very close, so I wonder if there isnt a recessive gene floating around that is expressing itself since the birds are fairly closely bred. Im growing out 2 blue wheaten roos that I got from Gary Ramey, and I think if I can incorporate one of them back into the herd, it will hopefully get rid of that oddball color. I was hoping to get a wheaten roo, but it is what it is.

I just noticed something about a wheaten pullet I hatched from Gary, it has yellow legs. He sent me two wheaten eggs this year when I got buff hatching eggs from him. So, just look them over carefully as they mature.


This weird white thing has popped up into John B's line this year too. It has appeared to be only the males that have it. There is a topic on the ABC board about it.

Phil Uruttia in Idaho got one from some wheaten and blue wheatens he is breeding this year. I saw it at one of the shows I attended this spring. I know he has birds from my line, but I don't know if he has incorporated anything from anyone else.

Could the "white" birds just be a very, very, very diluted Splash Wheaten bird?
Just wondering, because I've seen so many variations of the splash coloration.

No, they are some weird white thing going on. Mike Gilbert mentioned something about their being three kinds of white.....

You aren't the only one. I was just having this conversation yesterday...a friend of mine had "white" ameraucanas hatch from true Wheaten parents. The chicks started with the Wheaten color, then feathered out white. Hmmm. She has no other White Ameraucanas. Fascinating.

I have another little white one growing out. Id like to figure out where this is coming from, as its obviously a recessive, as my flock right now is a wheaten roo and 5 wheaten or blue wheaten hens. Jean, both of my roos that Im growing out from Gary have blue legs; I made sure to check this evening to make sure.

Its an oddity, for sure.

Does anyone have (multiple) photos of a Splash Wheaten Ameraucana rooster?
I did a google search but there weren't many pictures to show.

I'm interested to know if there are variations with the coloration of a SW Amer roo like there are in other splash birds. Do some have more of the pale blue color, or are predominately white feathers? Is it true that the breast of the roo should be laced with red?

I'd love to learn more.

He does have some kind of lacing in his chest- not sure if it's supposed to be there- but I love him anyway.
