Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

That website is filled with hatchery stock junk (no offense to people with hatchery birds) being sold as "show" birds. . . The images shown are of real Ameraucanas, but the way they falsely describe Ameraucanas (colored green and pink eggs, spelled the name wrong, etc) I would NOT trust this person.

Even their other breeds look like they bought chicks from a hatchery, then decided to breed them and sell them for profit.

I've sometimes seen people steal images from others of real Ameraucanas, but actually sell Easter Eggers. . . So who knows. I wouldn't trust them though.

I've already bought from her (2 speckled sussex, 1 columbian rock, 1 silkie, 2 RIR, and 2 Brahmas). So I dunno, it's kind of hard to find chicken breeders in Atlantic Canada. You can see the sussex and columbian rock on a thread on the breeds and genders section.

Ah. Well then, . . . That's the problem. I have indeed heard a lot of complaints on such little diversity and choice with breeds in CA. . . Well then, yes, I'm sure they are real Ameraucanas, just. . . The "breeder" needs to get some facts straight.

I've e-mailed her about the misleading title of easter eggers (which she thinks are the same as ameraucanas) and has most of the facts about easter eggers. I think it also says that arucanas and ameraucanas made the "americana". Idk, u can correct me if I'm wrong.

That's a Murray McMurray thing - They sell "Americana/Araucanas" which are supposedly a cross of the two and make "Americanas/Easter Egg chickens" or something. . . Araucanas and Ameraucanas are completely different but both a real breed. . . Easter Eggers (also called "Americanas") are just mutts.

Blue Ameraucanas.

Araucanas are rumpless (no tail) and quite rare - Also they don't have beards or muffs. And far as I remember, they're pretty rare in Canada.

Sorry, I meant Ameraucana.

devinO,
Listen there is a lady on PEI that has all the heritage birds from south America and if you live close enough to PEI you may be able to get something from her.
