Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

I had no luck giving away my EE roos on CL, but I haven't tried Freecycle. I'd probably take any roos to a swap again - the EE's were gone in the first ten minutes of being there. Yeah, no feathers on the neck on either of them, so I will keep watching for that.
Very nice roo you have, BTW. Hansome!

HappyMtn, isn't your blue bantam Ameraucana from my spring chicks? If so, here is his blue brother, on the far right. When I sent yours over, they were identical. . .

And now my Remy is just the darkest blue, with lovely lacing. I will go out and take a closer look at his feathers later, but I have not noticed any lightness on him.

(The black pullet in the photo is a hatch mate of his, and the splash girl is one of my home-grown chicks.)

[Ed. to add - - The blue and black bantam Ameraucanas were hatched from Little Ameraucana Mom's eggs, out of Indiana . . . Heavenly Springs Farms. They are friendly, docile and lovely little birds!]

Happy, I found a couple more pics of Remy and enlarged them. The chicks hatched on May 9, so they are just now five months. These shots were taken on Sept 22, just a couple of weeks ago.

Is your guy looking like this?

Yes! He looks just like that but he's all white around the neck right now. I think he's just getting in some "big boy feathers", but the white is so odd. But then, my absolute best (gianormous) blue cochin girl has the same thing. I think it's even more noticeable because they are both such a nice dark blue. I'll try to get a pic, but both of our cameras got wet and everything looks bleached-out. Just don't have the $ to get a new one yet. 3 kids birthdays in one month- oy!

No, it's just high in the middle. I have seen it lots of times.

I have never seen a true ameraucana with a single comb except in the lavender variety.

And, blue chicks have white on them just like black ones do.

Please forgive the blur! Here's the blue guy with the white. It's not feather shafts- there are actually little white fronds.

Not like it matters all that much- I don't have any ameraucana girls for him. He's got a bunch of araucanas & d'uccles to keep him company though.

Just for fun- new babies pic:
