Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

Could someone explain the difference between blues and lavenders to me. They look a lot alike, and I'm wondering just how different they really are, or if you get "variations" of lavender like you do with the blues.

Off to work I go. I'll catch up later.

Mine are hatching today, 9 out of 11 so far. Blacks and blues.

Well, folks, we've got quite an anomaly on our hands. Here she is:

And here is what makes her special:

Yes, she is an Ameraucana with FEATHERED FEET! Now, before every one says, "No,no, that is just an EE mutt", let me explain. She is one of Halo's beautiful Wheaton Ameraucana babies, hatched from a nice blue egg, born of good, carefully selected stock. Halo wanted me to let everyone know that she has never ever seen feathered feet on any of her Ameraucana breeding stock - or any of her Ams, for that matter. I have won the lottery of freak genetics, aparently. I know this would disqualify her if I wanted to show her, and technically maybe it does make her an EE, but I'm so excited to have her! I'm trying to think of a unique name for her that reflects her specialness - let me know if you think of any! I'll post updated pics as she grows up.

Lavender is almost a lilac/purple color and blue is of course blue. The blue is also laced and lavender is not. They also come from two different genes the self blue recessive gene (lavender) and the blue andalusian gene (blue) is heterzygous gene which means it can produce Blues (Bb) Blacks (BB) and Splash (bb) you can do a basic punnet square with this gene.

Oh she's cute! Did she look like a faverolle at hatch? (I'm a sucker for any baby chick, but especially favs & cochins

I have a few misfits in the flock too, and I love them just as much, if not more than the others.
