One club we joined it was all tied in to registering for their forum. Fill out the membership form, chose your payment preference and click purchase. Boots you to Paypal if paying that way to complete the order and then right back to the forum to finish registration and select preferences. Our names and info showed up right away as members. Top of the forum shows when the membership expires and I'm guessing I'll lose forum access and drop off the members list if I don't renew by that date. I chose email as the preference for the newsletters. Received one about a week ago. I don't know if the club has any sort of membership packet they send out or not. As far as I can tell, all of these functions are being taken care of without the club secretary having to do anything at all.

My junior daughter is planning on getting some Bantam Ameraucanas this spring. She is in 4h and also does poultry shows. We have contacted a very good breeder about getting some started birds and maybe some chicks.

She needs to decide which variety is her preference. She loves them all, its those cute puffy cheeks, she has Faverolles too. I assume the differences between varities is color, or are some varities in general flightier or friendlier? We have had some EE's in the past but not Ameraucanas.

She wants to have quality birds and have a chance at doing well with showing them. She does plan to do some breeding also.
From a breeding or judging standpoint would solid colors like Wheaton or black be better for her to start with. She loves the look of the Silver but I am guessing it is more difficult to get correct color markings? Would the same hold true for Blue Weatons, you are going to get some Splash offspring.

What are your opinions for a dedicated poultry loving 10 year old.

I went to the N GA polutry show today and there was a huge junior showing. Out of maybe 1000 birds, there were about 6 bantam Ameraucanas, 4 weaten and 2 BBS. (No EEs! Can you believe it?!?!) No LF at all.
I think it would be easier to get correct color with blue, black, or buff than with the wheatens. There is so much variation in the wheatens- especially the pullets (in LF anyway). Not too familiar with the silvers. I love the look of the hens, but not crazy about the roosters, so I haven't paid much attention.

They even score patterned birds slightly differently to allow for judging of the color pattern.

On the solid birds though, consider your set up, and if they are going to have full sunlight exposure you don't want buff or white.

I'm reposting this here because I hope to put 4 BW eggs in the bator tonight...

I just plugged the incy in, a Hovabator 1588, I've got it all set up to put in some of my own eggs that I've been collecting the past few days. Well as it has been heating up I've slowly been watching the humidity rise, mind you I have added no water at this point and the humidity level is at 94%!

What's the deal??? Is there any way I can get the humidity to drop before adding the eggs tonight? I have already pulled the red vent plug with little relief from the high humidity.

Any suggestions?
