Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

Illia one of my lav roos was taken by a fox a while back and managed to escape. If your hen has cuts and scratches and heavy damage where feathers were ripped out, I found that "Wonder Dust" a powder made for horses was great. I bought mine at the feed store. It was a great color for my lav birds. Squirt it on, dries up the wound and the other birds won't peck because the blood is dried and and disguised by the powder. It really was a wonder and I will use it again the next time I have an injured bird. He made a full, uncomplicated recovery.

Mr. Shaffer,
I owe my beautiful Lavender Ameraucana to you. 28/30 eggs started after being shipped all the way to New Mexico. They are healthy, friendly, beautiful birds, that are very productive. Thank you again!

Dak,
Very happy you are enjoying them. Yes, they are too tame because I am afraid I am going to step on them all of the time. It had always been a pleasure talking to you. I hope you have a good season this year.

In reference to post #6306": Determining blues, blacks & splashes...

Thanks everyone!

I think the consensus is they are splash, which I'm glad to hear. I was really hoping that I wouldn't have to throw out all my previous assumptions and start over!

Thanks for the compliments on them, too. I just wish they were as nice as they are pretty!

Guess they've got the typical male "good-looking & knows it" personality...

Congratulations Jean!
My eggs are in the bator too. Only day three so I have awhile to go before I'll candle. Hoping my black ameraucana eggs are viable. A couple of my girls are awfully young and haven't been laying for very long but I'm still hopeful.

Also have a bunch of EEs in there so I won't be without chicks but still...
