I knew it would be hard to wait this long when I placed the order, but I'm sure glad I did. (After watching one of the recent auctions on here for eggs, I'm REALLY glad I did..... BTW CONGRATS Muggs!)

That was CRAZY fun. I had hot flashes and wanted to join in on the bidding.

I have been getting a lot of questions on the Lav Ameraucanas, and if this auction does anything, it will draw attention to the breed...and give this color recognition. I could not have foreseen the eggs going so high. When we say we are breeders, we have a responsibility to strive to breed for type. I am working with what I have. I am grateful to Harry Shaffer and John W. Blehm for all the work and dedication they've put into this color (as I bought my eggs and chicks from them), and I will continue to work with what I have. They have both graciously answered what may have been ridiculous questions from me and I find their experience is invaluable.

If anyone is serious about a breeding program, they should always ask where people get their stock from, do their research, and even go to the top breeder to buy their own stock from. I sure hope Harry's emails are flooding in...he deserves a huge amount of credit for Lavender Ameraucanas. If anyone is looking for eggs off the auction site. Look up Harry on the ABC Breeder's Directory list. He was a pleasure to work with, and hopefully will have eggs available to everyone seeking them! I believe John has filled his waiting list for Lavender Ameraucanas this year.

Warmest regards,

Meagan

I have to say Ann, I like them a lot. Look at the beautiful blue tail feathers on those pullets!

How do you feel about their overall Wheaten color? Do you have a preference whether they are lighter and creamy all over or are you breeding for a darker plumage color?

I'm kind of torn, I have examples of both in my small flock and I'm unsure in which direction I want to breed.

Of course Jean!

The standard calls for an overall lighter hen, correct? Staying away from a "gingery" color?

I know a lot of people are doing the hatch along right now. I have everyones hatch is going well. I know most people keep everything they hatch but, if there is a breeder out there that ends up with an extra Blue Wheaton hen they would like to sell please let me know.

There are some parts of the bird that are supposed to be the gingery color.......

Primarily the head & hackles?

I'm still waiting on my new copy of the SOP...
