Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

Hello everyone,
frow.gif

My daughter and I are trying to start a flock of Ameraucanas for her 4-h project with plans to exhibit them. We just purchased 18+ hatching eggs from B/B/S lines. This will be our second attempt at hatching eggs, the first attempt was quite dismal, and only one chick hatched. We had just a few blue eggs last time around and we found them very difficult to candle. What do all of you use to candle your blue eggs that is bright enough to penetrate the shells? Thanks for all your help.

I don't bother to candle them until 14 days. You can't see anything beore then.

I use an led small flashlight. The end just fits around the egg.

The same flashlight I use for other eggs.

Honestly, blue eggs are just as hard as brown eggs. I use a flashlight that apparently now costs $50 online though.
