Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

The ones I mentioned that are just getting started are 7 & 1/2 months old, so it probably won't be too much longer for yours. I was kind of surprised mine did really, since it's been so wet and cold. It was about 13 degrees last night I believe.......here in Southern Arkansas. It's only 24 degrees right now, and it's after 10 a.m. and the sun is shining brightly. Thank goodness the sun is shining today!

I have to say, I wish I didn't have to quarantine all new birds (especially since I have faith in the person these came from), because I am dying to put some of my new Blacks in with my Lavender rooster! Especially, since none of the girls in the Lavender pen are laying yet, but a couple of my new blacks are! I hope the next couple weeks fly by quickly.... talk about torture. I am really pleased with this Lavender rooster from John he really is not much smaller then my Black roosters. Some of the new Black girls are HUGE, so I am really optomistic.

Pinkchick My girls are just a hair over 6 months and I am getting between 2-4 eggs a day out of 8 or 9 pullets, so it shouldn't be much longer for you! It's only about 15F here and we have about 9" of snow outside. Silly girls!

but I should be hatching a ton this spring and get numbers up. I am glad you quarentined them I know my birds were healthy here but I always always always suggest quarentining birds from anyone! Its better safe then sorry. I am glad you like the new girls I was much happier with the girls in that bunch then the cockeral he is Ok but some of the pullets are just awsome espeacially those to 9lb girls

Good luck with your breeding project can't wait to hear what you hatch from them when they are in with your roosters.

Yes, but just think how happy your Faverolles are going to be with all that space! Plus all the new birds you're going to get to aquire/hatch. I get to keep you posted on these guys. They are quite awesome

I can't wait till I can see them free ranging with the rest of the group.

I'm going to try and get some more photos soon....

Good Stuff the faverolles are absoultly euphoric! Imagine you have been living in a cold chicken tractor with very little space to run and jump and play. Obviously they had food and water and a nest box but the ground was either mud or frozen. Now they have 24sqft of deeply beded pine shavings in a beautifully built enclosed coop with a nice hanging feeder heated waterer and light plus 6 nests for 6 hens. Today I let them out into the 120sqft of run space and you should have seen them

lots of crowing and squaking and jumping and running around and they even found their own way in tonight.

Enjoy them I don't feel bad at all its just oddly empty but that means their is more room to fill up with the chicks I am going to hatch

This thread has convinced me... I'm thinking about putting in an order with Blehm for a couple dozen lavender LF.
I'd like some blue wheaten because those roos are just awesome, but I was thinking John in closer to me (I'm in Ohio) and I'm trying to find quality in the birds but at the same time not break the bank completley. You are all truly enablers.

I think John is sold out on LF already and he doesn't have blue wheatens.

Oops, she said lavenders from John, the blue wheaten was mentioned as a wish list item. Sorry, I've been a Mom way too long!

Is John really already sold out of all his LFs!!? How can you tell? His order form says he's sold out of wheaten LFs only but I don't know him so maybe you know something I don't? Latest order form (updated Jan 2nd) still lists LF Lavenders as available. Oh I'm helping to enable aren't I? Hurry though, he will sell out quickly!
Glad I ordered 2 months ago.
