Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

I know Lisa(dipsydoodledoo) had some, not sure where she was going with her project. I thing the leg color was the issue for these(same for mottled)

I have 3 easter egger pullets. A buddy of mine gave me 2 splash maran cockerels , hoping to get some pretty little olive eggers off these guys

DH will be ecstatic about getting his basement back...something about it becoming a farm down there. Not sure what he means

...Put my 13 Marans outside 2 weeks ago so all that is left to do is to clean the 'dust' off of EVERYTHING down there.

I bought my first 'Americanas' last year from a craigslist ad from a chicken breeder up north that said 'Pure bred Ameraucana'...the ad is there this year also.

To say I was disappointed when I finally learnt the truth is selling it short. I was also a bit ticked at myself for not doing the proper research and I think that's what bites the most - $15 a bird i spent for them at 8 weeks. They grew into beautiful birds but I really wanted Ameraucanas so I spent some money and got what I wanted. I don't think it's snobby at all to speak the truth about breeding any animal but I think being told you got unwittingly 'ripped' off or made an uninformed purchase does sting a bit from my own experience - I did a lot of research before I bought my Yorkie and had her shipped simply to avoid being ripped off with a Silkie or other type of crossbreeding. I think the brutal and consistent truth would seem the best way to deal with what seems to be a consistent issue with this breed, it helped me make a much better purchase this year on all my birds

I'm sooooo excited about going outside and fixing up and cleaning the pens while my 2 year old is napping - all my friends think I've completely lost it over these chickens...one couple is thinking of getting some birds this year tho' - I hope they do as it would be great to have some fellow addicts.

They won't ever get recognized because the legs will not come up slate on a barred bird.

I fear this may be the case with the Mottled Ameraucanas

Hi guys, I hatched out some lav Ameraucanas a few days ago and one of them looks odd. These were split: 75% lav and I think 25% black. This one looks neither. Can someone please explain to me what is up with this chick's color????

The chick; bottom left - yellow with grey-ish strip - what color is that one? I had one of those hatch out of my B/B/S Ameraucana eggs. At 5 weeks, she has turned out sort of like a peach colored Splash. I'm curious how that happens and what she might produce in the future if I were to hatch her eggs. Is she techinically an EE now because she hasn't bred true?

This is her ....

she is a mixed color, your bird. The one in the pic is either a blue mottle or lav mottle, not sure where Clare is with her project....
yours looks like a wheaten/bw crossed with a b/b/s. I have some that are still fuzzy but I can tell by their feathers they will look similar to yours...
