She's lovely.

I know, she is such a lovely bird. When Mike showed her last year, she won her class. Glad Ducklover got her! She simply didn't get along with my bantams who are such pissy-cats and too laid back so this girl knows how to muscle her way to the top but she was still below all of my LF Wellies, they don't let her get by with that LOL!

She had a fuller beard when I got her but she became broody the past two weeks, she pulled all of her chest feathers and some of her beard that her companions pecked her to get into the nest which she refused to budge out of there. Plenty of broken eggs when two LF crammed into a nest that this Black hen was sitting on. Not a happy girl at all. She pecked hard at me, daring me to get the eggs!

When she becomes broody again, see if she will set the eggs for you next time. I am hoping she will be a good momma.

Give her a bit of bread, not much but let her know that she would be just fine and trusting you again. She was scarey looking when I got her but once she got used to me, she was fine.

Hello all...

I'm a newbie and I have been going through old posts but it is eating up time...

I was hoping someone could post a picture that shows a blue and lavender together. With camera and lighting differences it is hard to see what the difference is. Is lavender more like a blue tinged silver? Am I correct in understanding that lavedar is only in bantam? Why is that, if it is so?

Also, is lacing outside the standards? It is so gorgeous..is that what is meant by a split or does that mean entire feathers of a different color?

Finally, there are a lot of abbreviations being used...is there something I can refer to that I ccould past on a note for easy access?

I made an order with Hodges Farm and I am anxiously awaiting my chicks!

Steven, I emailed you all the information I got from Mike so you are good to go! Be sure to print it out and keep it for your files in case someone questions your black hen. From what Mike told me, you can still breed her to another Ameraucana roo of blue eggs and you probably would get more blue eggers than light greenish blue she produces. I think she is lovely as it is and whatever project you are working on, she can go either way.

I got them!
I emailed MotherGoose if she has a Roo for sale.
I think she is going to be spoiled... I'm already looking at building some breeding pens and she will probably get her own coop whenever it gets done.
