When the pullets first started laying, the shells were VERY brown-green, and the color did get lighter and more blue throughout the lay cycle. Hens that lay daily have less concentrated pigment than those who lay 3 or 4 days out of the week. Keep that in mind if you start culling for egg color trait alone. You may inadvertantly select AGAINST productivity. First eggs (the top row)....

Ok back to work; everyone have a GREAT MEMORIAL DAY, stay safe, and remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice so all of us could enjoy our freedom. THEY are what this holiday is all about.....

Hi, I am a new Ameraucana/EE caregiver as I now have my first at just a week and a half old. I have a couple of newbie questions, hope that's alright. These offspring are the result of a silver rooster over pure lavender hens thus making them EE I am assuming.

Do they tend to pattern like Ameraucana's in the sence that males pattern different from females enabling you to sex them at a fairly early age? Also being that they are lavender and silver what color variation would I get from a cross? They are all just adorable as can be, all have muffs and currently have yellowish legs except one (my favorite). Attached are a few pictures of them taken at a day or two old, they are all a silver/gray base color with a variation of patterns, actually a bit lighter than the pictures show.

(the solid blacks in the pics are bantam orps)

I can't answer most of your questions, but breeding them amoung themselves should produce an occassional lavendered/silver duckwing; which I think would be gorgeous in both the male and female versions. I'm a little surprized at the chick's striped down color; I would have hazarded a guess they would have hatched black.

He will be an EE, no hatchery has true ameraucana. I bought 2 of my orloff hens from a hatchery and 1 from a breeder, not even close to the same. Breeder was bigger and better color pattern, unfortunately, despite how gorgeous the roos were I didn't like them too much so I got rid of them but kept the hens for eye candy. He most likely is tailed, cockerals just tend to get them later. If you feel his rump he probably has a little tail bone above his vent. A tailless bird is rumpless.
So, unless you got your birds from a breeder they are all EE's

I agree with Steve, lav x silver should result in 100%black chicks then the F1's crossed would result in about 6 diff colors including lav & silver.....
where did you get them from?
