Question was asked of me what you get when you mate blue to black and blue to lavender? My guess is blacks across the board, but I really don't know. Anyone have an idea?

50% blue 50% black across the board.Blue to lav is not reccomended.Said to produce a very light color if 2 copies of lav and 1 copy of blue.Had a couple of these last year but mine were lav with the ink spots sometimes found in blue.Test matings confirmed their genes.I did this just to see what I would get.Lost the photos in a computer crash.

I love this thread! I will soon be getting some pure ameraucanas from a breeder, unforunatly they are straight run, is there ANY way you can sex day old chicks? Any idea welcome!

Not really anything reliable.Length of tail as they grow works fairly well.I believe the hens tail grows faster if I remember correctly.There is also a way on striped chicks but I forget the details.I just wait for the combs to show.

So after all my worries about my two 9 month old pullets not laying yet, I've been blessed with about 10 eggs this first week.

Just wanted to put up some pics of our hens and roo, they are from 17 to 19 weeks. This is our first experience owning chickens and love this breed, we do have a Wyandotte also in there and will be adding RIR's soon.
